I don't know who tested these, but they are substantially thinner than my other mitts, and are not insulated enough for normal use (cookie sheet at 400deg). They keep fingers from burning but a lot of heat is stil transferred in just a moment. The 450 degree rating must just be to keep hands from burning, not from being uncomfortable.
Maybe they are meant to look nice hung and never used.
